Abstract

Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy program for improving automatic thought, depression and stress coping methods in depressive patients.
Method: A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used for this quasi-experimental study. The study was conducted from May 3 to Nobember 22, 2011. The 20 participants in this study were selected from patients with depression (10 for the experimental group and 10 for the control group). Datas were analyzed ¥ö©÷-test, t-test, paired t-test with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program.
Result: There were significant changes in automatic thought scores, depression scores in the experimental group before and after treatment, which were significantly different from those in the control group.
Conclusion: The cognitive behavioral therapy program was effective in decreasing the automatic thought and depression of the depressive patient. Therefore, this program could be applied as an effective nursing intervention in managing depressive disorder.
